The County will get about two-million dollars over four years to work with University researchers to solve the local opioid crisis.

According to Broome County officials, Columbia University is working in 15 pre-selected New York counties that have been heavily affected by the opioid crisis.  The head researcher and investigators organized by the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services, New York State Department of Mental Hygiene and state and local health or mental health commissioners will be coordinating on the study to speed scientific solutions to what has become a national emergency.

Officials say the first phase of project is scheduled to begin in the upcoming weeks.
