Late on the evening of Tuesday, April 21, residents in Sanford, New York, spotted a truck parked outside a house that had been vacant since its owners passed away. When they noticed two people inside the home, they grew suspicious and called local law enforcement to report the unusual activity.

Deputies Intercept Suspicious Vehicle

When deputies from the Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene, they noticed a grey pickup truck driving nearby. They pulled the vehicle over and questioned its occupants: a man from Deposit and a woman from Binghamton. During the stop, the woman stated that she had been staying at the house for several days.

Property Owner Confirms Trespassing

Investigators reached out to the property owner, who confirmed that no one had permission to be at the residence, which then led authorities to search both the individuals and the vehicle.

Evidence of Burglary and Stolen Property

A closer inspection revealed that the man had equipment typically used for breaking and entering, while the woman was found with a payment card belonging to one of the deceased former occupants.

Suspects Arrested and Charged

Authorities took both individuals into custody. The man now faces charges related to illegal entry, possession of break-in tools, and conspiracy. The woman has also been charged with unauthorized entry and conspiracy.
