Another Broome County Native Makes It To The Super Bowl
If you need another reason to get excited for the Super Bowl this year, Windsor native Jason Houghtaling has given us one. He’s headed to football’s biggest stage, and for this community, that’s something special. From Friday night lights in Windsor to the biggest spotlight in the NFL, it’s the kind of hometown story that puts a smile on your face.
Roots in Windsor: Early Football Days
Long before he coached in the NFL, Houghtaling was a Windsor Black Knight. After graduating from Windsor Central High School, he played college football at Lafayette as a defensive lineman. What makes this story even better? His coaching journey didn’t begin in some distant city; it started right at home, coaching at his own alma mater. That full-circle moment is something local sports fans will always remember.
Building a Coaching Career Step by Step
After getting his start at Windsor, Houghtaling worked his way through the college coaching ranks, with stops at Cornell, Williams College, Colgate, and several stints at Wagner College. He eventually became head coach at Wagner, leading the Seahawks from 2015 to 2019. His path wasn’t flashy or fast. It was built step by step, season by season, with a lot of hard work along the way.

Breaking Into the NFL Coaching World
That steady climb paid off when Houghtaling made the jump to the NFL. He spent time with the Tennessee Titans, moving up from assistant offensive line coach to offensive line coach, and later joined the Chicago Bears staff. Now, he’s in his first season with the New England Patriots as their assistant offensive line coach, working under head coach Mike Vrabel. Clearly, things are working out.
Patriots Secure Super Bowl Berth
The Patriots punched their ticket to Super Bowl LX with a hard-fought 10-7 win over the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship on Sunday. That victory sends New England to face the Seattle Seahawks on February 8 in Santa Clara, California. For Houghtaling, it means standing on the sidelines for the Super Bowl, part of the coaching staff for one of the biggest games in sports. For Windsor, it means bragging rights and a whole lot of hometown pride.
Joining a Proud Broome County Tradition
Jason Houghtaling isn’t the first from Broome County to make it to the NFL’s biggest stage. He now joins an impressive list of local athletes who have played in the Super Bowl. Chandler Jones, raised in Endicott, earned a Super Bowl ring with the New England Patriots. His brother Arthur, also a Union-Endicott graduate, won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens. DaQuan Jones, a Johnson City alum and current Buffalo Bills pass rusher, has Super Bowl experience as well.
Chris Snee, closely associated with the Southern Tier, is a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants. And Isaiah Kacyvenski, a Harvard graduate from the region, also made his mark in the NFL. Houghtaling’s journey adds another chapter to Broome County’s rich football legacy, giving local fans yet another hometown hero to cheer for on Super Bowl Sunday.

Windsor’s Legacy on Football’s Biggest Night
No matter how the Super Bowl turns out, this is already a huge win for Jason Houghtaling and for the Windsor community that helped shape him. From Black Knight to NFL coach on football’s biggest night, it’s the kind of story that gives you chills and makes you proud to say he’s from here. This year, the road to the Super Bowl runs straight through Windsor, New York.
