Broome County Executive Jason Garnar says he’s taking steps to prevent price-gouging as more people are ordering food for delivery through third-party services during the pandemic.

The Democrat has signed an emergency order capping the amount third-party delivery companies can charge for service fees at fifteen-percent.

In a news release, Garnar says the order is something that the county can do to protect local businesses that have been devastatingly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic from further damage through price-gouging by third party food delivery service companies.

The Executive did not name specific companies or instances that had been a problem in the past.
