As Boscov's works to finalize a short-term lease renewal for its Binghamton store, the company is almost ready to resume operations at three other locations.

The Pennsylvania-based company plans to open its Erie and Selinsgrove stores Sunday. The location in St. Clairsville, Ohio is to reopen next Tuesday.

Jacob Stein, a Boscov's senior vice president, said the company is working on a lease extension at the downtown Binghamton site it has occupied since 1984.

Boscov's officials are assessing things at all of the retailer's 49 sites which have been closed for several weeks because of the coronavirus pandemic.

With the expiration of the latest one-year lease at the Binghamton site, Stein said the company is "holding off on any commitments until we get clarity" on various issues.

Boscov's and Binghamton officials have met with state economic development officials to secure funding to make needed repairs to the building leased by the retailer. A substantial amount of state assistance also is being sought to pay for necessary work at the attached Water Street parking garage.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Tuesday, Mayor Richard David said he anticipates a one-year lease extension will be signed when Boscov's has established a timeline for reopening the store.

Stein said the company is continuing to develop its plans for resuming operations at its stores. Boscov's operates stores in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island.
