Birdsall here. Everyone has been asking about how I have done the weight loss. So I figured my never ending story should be shared.

First things first, no matter what size you are, you are a beautiful person. You know more than any "skinny" person how people feel about your personality. If you decide to make a change in body size, you need to do it for yourself. You will have a realization moment that you can choose to act on or not to act on. Mine was after I had surgery on my diaphragm. It was weak, herniated and needed to be fixed. Tests and x-rays came back that I had a fatty liver and I do not suffer from alcoholism.

My doctor told me that there was some serious complications that arise from it and suggested that I... here it comes... go vegan. My heart sank. "What about steak and chicken and spiedies and..." I felt like I lost a big part of my life. He softened the blow by letting me know this plan would be 1 month vegan, 3 months of three-phase, carbohydrate-restrictive diet. which means i could eat chicken. Okay, I'm in.

It was a horrible change at first. This stuff is what my food usually eats!! I did it. it wasn't so bad after awhile. I wasn't craving anything and I was completely sustained on plants alone. It does however pose an interesting shopping experience due to the fact that you are no longer part of the majority. I did try the other 3 months of the three-phase, carbohydrate-restrictive diet, but felt worse every time I ate. So I decided that I should just stay vegan. Let me tell you that I have gotten compliments on things that never would have crossed my mind before. I have been told i have great looking skin for Pete's sake. it's been kinda cool.

Now I am not saying I don't cheat. If i am at a wedding and the meal is given to me. I eat. the weird thing is, I don't can't eat as much as I used to! I feel the food "wall" coming and I stop. I have no problem with not finishing a plate. It's a good feeling. I have become accustomed to realizing how much food will fit in my gullet and that is what I put on my plate.

Finding vegan will be a challenge as well that you will benefit from. How? Well after all of the effort you put into this you will feel like if you eat like you used to you are ruining everything you have accomplished. So you will tend skip a lunch instead of eating what you know you shouldn't. I did anyway. I would just fill up on water, curse myself for not making a lunch and wait til I got home to my fridge for Vegan faire.

Know this. I do not go to the gym, I do not run unless I am being chased. I just do what I have done everyday work. If I actually had time to do the gym thing this would probably have happened even faster!

So there it is. It isn't magic. There was no mystical diet pill or band of gypsies rubbing my face while chanting "thinner". I made the choice to live longer, love longer and feel better.

You can too. if you need support on your journey, advice about what food I use to replace my favorites, or anything at all. I am always here for you.
