Don’t expect any visitors to arrive from out of town at the Greater Binghamton Intermodal Transportation Hub anytime soon.

County Executive Jason Garnar, who shut down commercial bus traffic in March to curb coronavirus infections from migrating from other areas like New York City, says he will only reopen the bus terminal when he and health officials feel it is safe.

The executive banned Greyhound and other commercial lines from dropping off passengers in Binghamton when coronavirus cases soared downstate and concern was raised that some people may be fleeing New York City and other COVID-19 hotspots to areas like Binghamton and other "upstate" communities to ride out the pandemic.

Many Binghamton University students, who were still in Broome County as the campus closed down and classes began to be held remotely, hail from Long Island, New York City and many of those downstate communities.

It's not know just how many B.U. students opted to stay in the Binghamton area for the past several weeks as lecture halls remained dark.
