Temporary Closure at Binghamton’s Social Security Office: What You Need to Know
If you’ve got business to take care of at the Social Security office in downtown Binghamton, here’s a heads up you’ll want to keep in mind.
In-Person Services Paused for Two Days
The Binghamton Social Security office, located at 2 Court Street, will temporarily suspend in person services on Thursday, July 31, and Friday, August 1, 2025, due to renovations. Doors are set to reopen on Monday, August 4.
If you need to speak with someone during the closure, you can still call the Binghamton office directly at 1-866-964-3971 for help over the phone.
Need to Visit a Social Security Office in Person?
For those who can’t delay their business until the Binghamton office reopens, there are options. You can head to the Oneonta office at 31 Main Street, or the Syracuse office at 100 South Clinton Street, Fourth Floor of the Federal Building. All Social Security offices are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Appointments Are the Way to Go
Want to skip the line and save time? Social Security now lets you make appointments for all services. This means fewer long waits and a smoother experience overall. You can still walk in if needed, but keep in mind that priority may be given to people with appointments, especially those in vulnerable or urgent situations.

To make an appointment, call your local office or 1-800-772-1213. That number also has a callback option. If you're deaf or hard of hearing, the TTY number is 1-800-325-0778.
There’s a Lot You Can Do Online
For many services, you might not even need to leave your house. Visit www.ssa.gov to create a my Social Security account where you can check your earnings, see benefit estimates, print benefit verification letters, or change your direct deposit. Not receiving benefits yet? You can use the site to explore your future benefits, calculate retirement numbers, and even apply for retirement, disability, or Medicare all online, with no forms to sign in many cases.
Need a Social Security Card? Start Online
Many people don’t realize they might not need their physical card, just the number. But if you do need a card or you're applying for one for the first time, go to www.ssa.gov/number-card. You can submit a request or start the process online, and you may not even need to visit an office in person.
