Binghamton Porchfest isn't your typical concert or neighborhood event. It’s a free, homegrown celebration of music and community, dreamed up by and for the residents of the Abel Bennett Historic Tract on Binghamton’s West Side.

Each year on the last Sunday of August, porches, yards, and driveways become makeshift stages, and the streets Rod Serling once wandered as a kid come alive with the sound of over 150 musical performances.

An August Tradition That's Grown Big-Time

What started back in 2015 has blossomed into one of the most beloved cultural events in the Southern Tier. In 2021 alone, Binghamton Porchfest hosted 167 performances across 58 porches, thanks to the efforts of over 750 volunteers. Thousands show up each year to enjoy the music, chat with neighbors, sip lemonade poured by the youngest locals, and dance right in the middle of the street.

Inspired by Ithaca, Fueled by Binghamton

Porchfest isn’t unique to Binghamton. The idea originally took off in Ithaca in 2007, and now over 200 Porchfests happen across the country. But Binghamton has truly made it its own. The community’s enthusiasm, creativity, and hard work have turned it into a summer staple that people look forward to all year long.

Help Make the 10th Year the Best Yet

This year marks a decade of Binghamton Porchfest magic, and organizers are looking for volunteers to help pull off the big day on Sunday, August 31. Whether you're a seasoned Porchfest fan or just looking for a way to give back, there's a spot for you on the team.

Volunteers Needed in All Shapes and Sizes

They’re looking to build crews for everything from setup to teardown, merch tables to info booths, and street closures to trash pickup. You can even help with shuttle coordination or pre-fest neighborhood canvassing if that’s more your style. Got friends? Bring them along because there’s plenty to do, and it's way more fun with a buddy.

Pick Your Shift, Rock a T-Shirt

You don’t have to commit your whole day either. Volunteers can choose to help out during the first or second half of Porchfest, in the morning, or even during cleanup after the music ends. No matter when you sign up, you’ll be a part of something special, and yes, you’ll score a Porchfest volunteer t-shirt too.

Ready to Jump In?

If you’ve ever danced your way through Porchfest or just love the sound of neighbors turning porches into stages, this is your chance to help keep the tradition going strong. Ten years in, the heart of Porchfest still beats through the people who make it happen.
