Applications for City of Binghamton positions can be picked up at the Municipal Civil Service Commission located on the 4th floor of City Hall, Governmental Plaza. Just make sure you submit your application back to that same office before 4:45 p.m. on the listed closing date. Don’t cut it close because late submissions won’t be accepted.

The Job: Crossing Guard for Binghamton Police Bureau
This part-time position is posted under the Police Bureau, with a daily pay rate of $48.50. No formal qualifications or prior experience are required to apply, just a commitment to keeping kids safe and having a calm yet alert presence at busy school crossings.
Why This Role Is So Important
As a Crossing Guard, you’ll be the person helping children cross streets safely on their way to and from school. You’ll also be directing traffic near crosswalks and slowing drivers down in school zones. In short, you’re the first line of defense between kids and fast-moving cars.

Who Would Make a Great Crossing Guard?
If you’re firm but friendly, get along well with children, and can stay alert during early mornings and afternoons, you’d be a great fit. Bonus points if you're comfortable using basic computer programs (there may be some light administrative tasks involved), and you’re in good physical condition to manage standing and moving outdoors.

Work Hours That Fit Into Your Day
This job is great for someone looking for a structured part-time schedule. You’ll work:
• Morning Shift: 7:10 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
• Afternoon Shift: 2:30 p.m. - 3:45 p.m.
• Half-Day Release Days: 10:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
