Binghamton & Johnson City Get Financing for Sewer Plant Work
The Binghamton/Johnson City Joint Sewage Treatment plant is getting New York State financing to help pay for some of the millions of dollars in repairs and upgrades.

Governor Kathy Hochul October 14 announced the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation has approved $2.74 million for Binghamton and $2.26 million for Johnson City in long-term interest-free financing for the jointly-owned sewer plant as part of a $44-million statewide water investment initiative.
The work on the over 50-year-old plant to fix deficiencies and improve technology to solve problems ranging from foul odors to release of partially treated waste into the Susquehanna River took years, suffered numerous setbacks, delays and budget overruns and cost over $274-million.
The October 14 funding announcement also included a Delaware County drinking water project. The Village of Walton has been approved for a $1.2 million Water Infrastructure Improvement grant and $800,000 in short-term, market-rate financing for upgrades to its water storage and distribution system.
Governor Hochul says the funding will help local governments make critical upgrades to wastewater collection systems, drinking water mains and water storage tanks among other infrastructure to help protect water quality in the state.
