An Endicott man is suspected of robbing banks in Johnson City and Binghamton before riding off on a bicycle.

Authorities say 24-year-old Nyquan Williams was taken into custody a few minutes after  a heist at the NBT Bank at 156 Robinson Street on Binghamton's East Side.

The bank was robbed by a man armed with a handgun around 2:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Police officers took Williams into custody after a struggle in the river. A nearby resident said the suspect apparently dropped the money taken in the heist on the bridge when he ditched his bicycle.

Police say they recovered about $60,000 and a loaded .22 caliber handgun.

Williams was charged with first-degree robbery and criminal use of a firearm. He was arraigned in Binghamton City Court.

Johnson City police say they believe Williams is the suspect in the July 2 armed robbery of the NBT Bank at 331 Main Street.

Village detectives executed a search warrant at his Endicott residence and found several pieces of evidence related to the first heist.

Williams is expected to be charged with robbery, criminal use of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm in connection with the Johnson City incident.
