Binghamton City Schools to Open with Remote Instruction

Several thousand Binghamton students won't be returning to the classroom next month.

The city school district Board of Education has decided on a remote opening with the first student instruction day scheduled for Monday, September 14.

The Binghamton district is planning to utilize a full remote instruction system for all students for at least the first three weeks.

All superintendent conference days have been moved to the first full week of September.

According to a news release, school district officials have determined that delaying in-person "hybrid" instruction until October 5 is "in the best interest of the health and safety of our students, their families and our employees."

The statement indicated the decision was based on several factors, including the changes in the community with the return of Binghamton University students. Many of the incoming university students are traveling from around the state and the country.

The district is planning to establish protocols with faculty and staff before introducing the guidelines to students in school buildings.
