A Broome County jury has reached a guilty verdict in a violent stabbing case that happened earlier this year in Binghamton. Paul Graham, 50, has been convicted of Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree following a trial in Broome County Court.

The Stabbing and Life-Threatening Injuries

The charges stem from a January 4, 2025, incident where Graham used a concealed cane sword, sometimes referred to as a cane knife, to stab the victim through the heart. The injuries were life-threatening and required immediate cardiovascular surgery. The victim survived the attack.

Prior Conviction Raises Stakes as Sentencing Approaches

Because Graham has a prior criminal conviction, the unlawful possession of the hidden cane sword elevated the weapons charge to a felony. That played a significant role in the outcome of the case and the severity of the potential sentence. Graham now faces up to 25 years in state prison. Sentencing is scheduled for March 11, 2026.
