Who even could have thought that we'd find ourselves swimming against the waves of a pandemic for going on a year and yet, here we are. Our local businesses have been doing all that they can to keep from drowning and in some ways, our community has acted like one of those bright orange lifesaver rings, tossing our business at locally owned establishments in an attempt to keep them afloat.

Residents Feel Compelled to Help

Next Insurance put out a survey to 2,800 people and the majority of the people who participated admitted that they have put forth a big effort to support locally owned or operated small businesses and that the pandemic has brought to the top of their mind the importance of supporting the little guys.

85% of people say that they've seen small businesses be forced to close and say they want to do their part to not be the reason for that happening to any other small businesses in their community.

Which State Supports Small Business the Most?

When it comes to states with residents most likely to go out and shop at small businesses or order food from local restaurants, the state with the most people supporting small business is California, with 91 percent of residents there saying they've actively made a point to support local business.

Where Does New York Fall on the List?

So, where does New York rank on the list? New York has taken spot number five with an impressive 89 percent of people raising their hand to say they're all about supporting small business and that they have in the last year.
