Friday, February 17th, the Binghamton Black Bears suffered a heartbreaking loss to Danbury in front of a sold-out crowd. They were leading by a goal with less than 3 minutes left in the game but the Hat Tricks scored with less 4 seconds left to complete the comeback for a regulation win over the Black Bears.

It was a big swing in points for two teams that were fighting for first place in the division. In a recent story, I wrote that "if you take care of what you can control, it usually doesn't come down to an official's call." As a basketball referee for 30 years, I defend the officials all the time.

I never participate in the chant when the "chicken dance" song is played at the arena when a call goes against the Black Bears. I'll just say that the officiating on Friday night left me feeling embarrassed.

The Black Bears did win on the road on Saturday and this weekend they'll play three in a row at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena against Carolina. This will be their last home games until March 18th.
