Biden on Cuomo: "I Think He Should Resign" Following AG Probe

President Biden has added his voice to the calls from many New York Democratic elected officials that Governor Andrew Cuomo step down.

During a White House news conference late Tuesday afternoon, Biden was asked about the state attorney general's report that concluded Cuomo had sexually harassed several women.

The president said of Cuomo: "I think he should resign." But Biden would not says whether the governor should be impeached if he refused to quit and he would not say whether he believes Cuomo should be prosecuted.

Biden said he had not read the report released by Attorney General Letitia James and he was unaware the details of what investigators discovered after questioning nearly 200 people. Biden said: "All I know is the end result."

During a 14-minute address shortly after the investigation's findings were made public, Cuomo made it clear that he had no intention of resigning. He said he wouldn't be "distracted" by the report that determined that he had "violated state and federal law."

State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie issued a statement shortly after Biden's news conference after a meeting of Democratic lawmakers in Albany.

Heastie said: "It is abundantly clear to me that the Governor has lost the confidence of the Assembly Democratic majority and that he can no longer remain in office."

Heastie added: "Once we receive all relevant documents and evidence from the Attorney General, we will move expeditiously and look to conclude our impeachment investigation as quickly as possible."
