New York’s Favorite NHL Game Day Snack Might Surprise You
The NHL season got underway yesterday (October 7th), as everyone was still thinking about National Taco Day. If you’re a hockey fan in New York, you probably care just as much about the snacks as you do about the puck drop. Everyone knows the food is half the reason watching a game is so fun.
A new report from Hard Rock Bet looked at what people are craving on game day across the U.S. and Canada. They went through Google search numbers to see which snacks fans look up the most, including New York.
New York’s Top Hockey Snack Isn’t Tacos
Even though tacos are the number one hockey snack across North America, New Yorkers stuck with something classic: hot dogs. Hot dogs are searched more than anything else by fans in our state, with about 110,000 searches.

Right behind them are wings with more than 65,000 searches, and tacos come in third with over 40,000. After those, people are looking up popcorn, poutine, and lobster rolls. Nachos, french fries, cheesesteaks, and perogies wrap up the rest of the top ten.
What Everyone Else Is Eating
Across the U.S. and Canada, tacos take the top spot with more than one million searches. Wings and hot dogs come next, followed by popcorn and poutine. Lobster rolls, cheesesteaks, nachos, perogies, and french fries all make the top ten too.
Texas goes heavy on tacos. Quebec is all about poutine. Alberta and British Columbia love donairs. Some states lean into wings, others into lobster rolls or cheesesteaks.
New York Holds Its Own in the Northeast
In the Northeast, hot dogs and cheesesteaks are the most popular snacks. New Jersey and Pennsylvania love cheesesteaks the most, while New York keeps hot dogs in first place.
Even with all the kinds of food we have from pizza slices to deli subs New Yorkers still go with something easy to hold in one hand while yelling at the TV with the other.
What This Really Means
At the end of the day, whether you’re a Rangers, Sabres, or Islanders fan (or the Binghamton Black Bears), the food you go for on game night says a lot about what feels right. Hot dogs, wings, and tacos all have their moment here, but hot dogs clearly take the crown in New York.
