Should New York Move to a 4-Day Workweek?
New Yorkers are known for living crazy and busy lives. We spend a lot of time working and don't always have time to take a break. What if there was a way to change that?
What if New York went to a four-day workweek? A recent survey asked this question to see how New Yorkers feel about the idea.
The survey asked over 2,000 people how they feel about going to a four-day workweek and the results were interesting. Over 70% of New Yorkers said they would be okay with the idea. Because having a three-day weekend would help them with their personal lives too.
When asked about the benefits of a four-day workweek, the most common answer was they could catch up on the sleep that they didn't get during the week. It comes as no surprise that New Yorkers are known for their busy schedules.
This means that they also miss out on needed sleep. The people that were surveyed thought they would get around 2 to 3 hours of extra sleep on their day off. But it's not just about sleep. They also said that having an extra day off would give them a chance to spend more time with family and friends.
The survey also talked about being more productive during a shorter workweek. There have been worries that a shorter workweek could hurt productivity, but nearly 65% believed that they would be more productive with fewer workdays. They felt that having a shorter work week would increase efficiency at work.
There were also some reservations as people were worried about about potential pay cuts or having to do more on the remaining workdays. They also wondered if moving to a four-day workweek would even be possible for everyone. I know that it wouldn't work for the job that I do.
