A 50-year-old diner that was a fixture in downtown Binghamton before the Covid-19 pandemic is back in business.

Rolando's Diner at 140 Court Street has reopened following a year-and-a-half shutdown.

The eatery closed at the start of the pandemic on March 16, 2020. The lights and the grills were turned back on a few days ago.

Two brothers from Vestal - Michael and Peter Gill - are operating the restaurant.

Michael Gill said the "community is very happy" that Rolando's has returned. He said "we tried to keep everything the same."

The menu offers the diner fare customers had enjoyed for years. There also are plenty of familiar faces preparing and serving the food.

Waitress Debbie Ferris, who has worked at Rolando's for 12 years, is pleased that many people she's served at the diner are coming back.

For now, Rolando's is closed on Monday but the restaurant could start operating seven-days-a-week at some point in the future.
