Seven Cities in New York Make 2024’s Worst in U.S. for Bed Bugs List
Bed bugs are tiny pests that feed on human blood and tend to hide in mattress seams, bed frames, and other cracks and crevices in homes and apartments. They can easily travel between units in multi-unit residential buildings, making it challenging to control infestations. Bed bugs are also known to hitchhike on luggage and clothing, making travel a common way for them to spread.
If you suspect that you have a bed bug infestation, do not wait to seek professional help. Bed bugs can reproduce quickly, and a small infestation can quickly spiral out of control. Professional exterminators can provide effective treatments to eliminate bed bugs from your home, but it's important to act fast to prevent them from spreading to other units in multi-unit residential buildings.
Pest Gnome conducted a study to identify the cities with the worst bed bug infestations in 2024. They ranked 500 cities in the United States. The methodology used by Pest Gnome to determine the worst cities for bed bug infestations involved several steps.
First, they identified the most relevant factors for ranking cities based on bed bug infestations. These factors were grouped into three categories: Infestation Risk, Pest Control, and Urban Density.
Next, a weight was assigned to each factor based on its importance. The data for each factor was collected from various sources such as Yelp, The Real Yellow Pages, Google Ads, Tripadvisor, and the U.S. Census Bureau.
To calculate the scores for each city, they assigned points out of 100 based on its rank in each factor, category, and overall. The Overall Score is the average of all scores across factors and categories, with the highest score indicating the highest risk and the lowest score indicating the lowest risk.
