JACKPOT: We Uncovered Binghamton’s BC Comics Video Game
Recently I took a stroll down memory lane as I reminisced about going to the Oakdale Mall with my friends. We would spend an hour or two at Aladdin's Castle playing video games and pinball.
In the 80's, I remember playing Pac-Man, Asteroids, Centipede, Galaga and Frogger, just to name a few. There is one game that I don't remember playing and it has roots here in the Southern Tier.
BC's Quest For Tires
It's the BC Comics Video Game called "BC's Quest For Tires." It might not have been at Aladdin's Castle but it was available in 7 different versions including Atari, Apple 2, and Tandy 1000.
The game was introduced in 1983 and the title was a play on the title for the movie Quest for Fire. It looks like many of the popular arcade games that I played in the early 80's. It's amazing how far these games have come in the last 40 years.
BC's Quest for Tires reminds me a lot of the 80's arcade game, "Jungle King." and "Pirate Pete." It's hard to believe now but the game was praised for it's "excellent graphics" and animation. Colecovision also named it the 'Game of the Year."
When we were kids, this game and many like it were considered treats. If we behaved during the week, our reward was going to the mall to play these games. 40 years later, we would make our children play this game as a punishment. This game has not aged well.
A sequel was released in 1984 called "Grog's Revenge." Do you remember BC's Quest for Tires? If you know where this game is at, I would love to know. Now that we told you about the game, here's how it was played.
