Employees at BAE Systems in Broome County will develop upgraded flight controls for F-16 aircraft used by the United Arab Emirates.

Work on the program will take place at the company's site on the Huron Campus in Endicott.

BAE Systems was chosen by Lockheed Martin to handle the flight control technology for the "next-generation" F-16 combat aircraft.

The initial order covers various services including design, integration and testing of the flight control computer.

According to a BAE Systems news release, production orders form about 100 units are expected in 2020 and 2021. As many as 315 units may be shipped through 2028.

The company said more orders are possible in the future under terms of the agreement for upgrades and potential new builds of the F-16 aircraft.
