The Sheriff’s office has been getting complaints about robocalls and messages telling residents they were overcharged by New York State Electric and Gas and are to get 30% off their next bill.  The catch is the crook wants the would-be victim to enter their bank account information so a refund can be deposited for them.

The criminals have managed to make the calls appear to come from a local phone number or even what looks like a real NYSEG number.

NYSEG does not use automated calls to inform customers of maintenance, billing or general information and will not ask for information the company already has for its billing system.

If you get a call like this, hang up and contact the NYSEG customer service number at 1-800-572-1111 or go to nyseg.com for more information.
