Woman Allegedly Abducted in Smithville Flats Found
7 A.M. UPDATE 8/1/18: The Chenango County Sheriff's Office is reporting that the victim, suspect, and vehicle were all located at an address in Broome County. The alleged victim was unharmed and no charges have been filed, however, the investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Powell at 607-337-1863. Assisting in this investigation were the Broome County Sheriff's Office, Tioga County Sheriff's Office, and New York State Police.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the community as they are actively investigating a reported abduction of 20-year-old Katelyn L. Nielsen of Smithville Flats, New York.
On Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at about 9:30 p.m. A call was received by the Chenango County 911 center in which the caller reported that an abduction had occurred on Tarbell Road in Smithville.
According to the 911 call, Katelyn Nielson was forced into the vehicle of Calvin L. Burlingame, age 46 of Newark Valley. The caller told authorities that the suspect’s vehicle is a gray 1997 Subaru Legacy hatchback with the New York plates HYP3398.
At this time, the whereabouts of the alleged victim and suspect are not known, however, authorities tell us that the alleged victim and suspect know each other had been in a previous relationship.
