Another historic building in the Greater Binghamton Area is gone after failing to attract new commercial development.

The Frank A. Johnson American Legion Post 758 on Main Street in Johnson City became a pile of bricks and concrete April 13, 2018.

The building located next to the NYPenn Trade Center (a former Johnson City School) had been vacant for years with the last newsletter from the Post published online ten years ago in 2008, urging members to get entries in for the next newsletter by May.

The cornerstone laid at the property was dated 1922 with the Post listing up to 2,000 members in its heyday in the 1940s.

The location was a popular venue for years for parties, weddings, dinners and bingo.

With a dwindling membership, the building was sold in 2012 for $15,000.

Marchuska Developers said, given the condition of the structure, it might not be salvageable.  Two years later there still were no businesses signing on for the building.

In October 2017 Post members hoisted the World War II Monument onto a truck to move it to a new location, anticipating the property would be razed.

Until days before the backhoes and bulldozers moved in, "for sale signs" were still posted on the front of the deteriorating facade.
