Construction on a $60 million baseball stadium complex on the Binghamton University campus in Vestal is to get underway in a few weeks.

University officials announced plans for the project Tuesday afternoon. The cost will be covered by an anonymous gift, which is the largest in the school's history.

University President Harvey Stenger said the "unprecedented gift matches donor passion and strategic needs for the campus."

Stenger said "we are extraordinarily grateful for the generosity of our anonymous donor family."

An 84,000 square-foot facility is to be built to support the university baseball team. It will include a new stadium, clubhouse and indoor training facility.

With construction work expected to begin soon, the team should be able to play in the new stadium next year.

More information about the project plans will appear shortly on wnbf.com.
