As we all know, I'm not much of a cook but I love to eat. I especially love to eat interesting combinations of food.  My favorite.....Meatball with mayonnaise and lettuce sub.

I discovered this wonderful concoction by accident. In the late 80's, I worked at a subway shop in Owego during the lunch hour. When the lunch rush was done, we got to eat. One catch: If we made a mistake, that was our lunch for the day.

It was a very busy Friday at the sub shop and I was trying to put the subs together fast.  Every one wants it with mayo and lettuce, so I was trying to get ahead.

I asked the gentlemen, what sub he wanted.  He said "meatball" and without thinking I put the meatballs on the sub with the mayo and lettuce.....whoops, that was that days lunch and the rest is history.

I still order it today and I get all kind of reactions.  Several years ago, I ordered it at a restaurant and the guy behind the counter said "We don't make our meatball subs with mayo and lettuce on it."  Maybe that's one of the reasons, it's out of business today.

Some places I just say I want the "Glenn Pitcher meatball sub" and they just smile and make it. I was at a sub shop down the street from my house and the lady that made the sub said "Is this any good," I wanted to say "No, but I'm ordering it anyway" but I don't know if she would know I was only joking (some don't get my since of humor.)

She did say that she would have to try it.....I think that was her joke.  I've had people tell me that they've tried it and surprisingly enough, they liked it.
