It's that time of year again. No, not Thanksgiving but how much more the average price of a Thanksgiving Day dinner will cost. It's going up but maybe not as much as you think.

According to New York Farm Bureau volunteer shoppers. The price of turkey's has gone up fairly significantly but the overall price of dinner has only gone up 3 percent

The average total price this year, which includes a 16 pound turkey, is $52.30. That' s $1.36 more than last years total of $50.94.

Turkey prices have gone up 12 cents a pound on average. The rise in turkey prices is likely due to a decline in production following the avian influenza outbreak in the Midwest earlier the year.

The reason that the overall price has gone done is because of the decline of other prices. For example, a gallon of whole milk has dropped 53 cents from last year at this time. That's good news for the consumer but not good news for dairy farmers.

The price of gas declining has also helped in the drop in the overall price.
