Lynda Petty, wife of NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty, died yesterday (3/26) at home. She was 72.

Richard Petty is the “King” of NASCAR, but his castle was ruled by “Mrs. Lynda.” Lynda and Richard secretly married in 1959.  She also played a role in the “Cars” movie, she was the voice of the car married to the car voiced by Richard Petty.

She was diagnosed with central nervous system lymphoma in 2010 and had treatments at Duke University Medical Center. Her death was announced by Richard Petty Motorsports. She is survived by four children including former NASCAR driver and announcer Kyle Petty, also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family is having a private memorial service.They are also asking that instead of flowers, donations be sent to the Petty Family Foundation, 311 Brandson Mill Road, Randleman, NC 27317.
