The State University of New York is taking steps to make sure campus police treat everyone fairly.

24 officers from throughout the SUNY system recently completed a national Fair and Impartial Policing training program in Syracuse and are back on their campuses to train other officers.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher said, quote: “Nothing is more important than the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors.”

The FIP training is designed to help officers better understand how bias, especially implicit or unconscious bias, can impact policing.

600 SUNY police officers are being trained in the FIP program this year.
