The NYS Fair is from August 27 - September 7 in Syracuse. There is a lot going on. Did you know that they are offering Emergency Preparedness Training...for free? Now you do.

They are hosting 2 free training courses through the New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps Training. It helps with info for New Yorkers. You'll get a free backpack of resources useful in emergencies.

It'll also prepare for any type of disaster, to respond accordingly, and to recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.

Two training classes will take place from 4 to 5p on Monday, August 31, and from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1 in the Empire Theater at the Art and Home Center on the Fairgrounds.

The training kicks off National Preparedness Month, it's to increase public awareness about emergencies, with a focus on actions that can be taken before disaster strikes.

This year's National Preparedness Month theme is "Don't Wait.  Communicate.  Make Your Emergency Plan Today."

You'll be advised on how to properly prepare for any disaster, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies.

A key component of this training is the distribution of free New York State Disaster Preparedness Kits to all participants (one per family).

Pre-registration is required and can be completed here.
