A Binghamton University student was struck repeatedly during a robbery on the city's West Side.

Tuesday night's incident is the latest in a series of reported assaults and robberies in Binghamton in which students appear to have been targeted.

Authorities say the attack occurred at 9:23 p.m. near 149 Oak Street. The 22-year-old student told police he was walking when he was struck in the back of the head.

After the student was hit in the head, the assailant and two other men demanded his cell phone. The student said he was then struck several more times until he gave up his phone.

The student sustained a laceration to the head but declined medical treatment.

Police say the assailant was described as a black male; about 20 years old; five-feet, ten-inches tall; wearing a white sweatshirt. A second suspect was described as a black male; about 20 years old; five-feet, ten-inches tall; wearing a black sweatshirt. The third suspect was only described as a black male.
