Fall is here and we've begun to think about football. Basketball is just around the corner. In fact, the 1st basketball officials meeting is on Monday the 28th at the Johnson City High School, if you're interested give me a call.

But for Binghamton University sports, it's about baseball.

The Binghamton University Baseball Team was working out for several professional scouts at Varsity Field.  Head Coach Tim Sinicki and his staff arrange this every year for the players.

There have been 8 BU players drafted by Major League baseball. Outfielder Jake Thomas was the latest. He was drafted by Toronto in the 27th round in June.

I've had some friends that have tried out in the past, it's a fairly routine process. The scouts watch as outfielders make throws to home plate. The infielders show their arm strength with throws across the infield.

The position players are timed in the 60 yard dash. Hitters are watched for bat speed and pitchers are checked with the radar gun for velocity.

Most of the players have already been scouted by professional baseball in high school and summer leagues. This gives them another chance to be seen.

Good luck BU boys, hope to see you in the big leagues soon.
