When is a week that runs for 10 days a good thing? When it's Binghamton Restaurant Week (BRW). It gives us more chances to visit great local restaurants and eateries for good causes.

One of the great things about BRW is that it gives you a chance to try someplace new or a chance to try something new at your favorite establishment. I went to South City Publick House, 1200 Vestal Ave. Binghamton. It's where Southside Yanni's used to be.

I went for lunch and the food was homemade and the service was friendly. Here is their lunch menu.

I started with the soup of the day which was chili made from scratch. It had a slight kick. Perfect for a spice wuss like myself. My waitress Megan suggested that I try sour cream in it.

I had never heard of that before but I'm glad she told me. I want my chili like that all the time.

My main course was the Crab Cake BLT with homemade potato chips. My fear with crab cakes is that sometimes, it can be dry. I feared for nothing because it was moist and very tasty. I mean, crab cakes and bacon go together like....like chili and sour cream.

I ended my lunch with the Jumbo Red Velvet Cookie. It was not only big but it had chocolate chips in it. I was going to take half of the cookie home with me to eat for later. Truth be told, the other half never made it out of the parking lot.

Megan told me that it looks like they'll be adding the Crab Cake BLT to the permanent menu, once BRW is over. You'll have to try it and see why. You won't be disappointed.

Can't make it for lunch but want to go for dinner? Here's the dinner menu. Special thanks to Suzanne for the chat and my waitress Megan for her service and smile.

Binghamton Restaurnant Week runs until Thursday, October 27th. It benefits CHOW and Truth Pharm.
