Watch ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Star Ezra Miller’s Charming 60-Second ‘Harry Potter’ History Lesson
With four more films planned in the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise, we’re starting to suspect that the wizarding world of 1920s New York is more directly connected to the Harry Potter series than previously thought. Need more proof? This helpful lesson in magical history from the insanely charming Ezra Miller should do the trick.
‘Rambo’ Reboot in the Works Without Sylvester Stallone, Which Doesn’t Sound Like ‘Rambo’ At All
It’s been quite A Day, and we’ll forgive you for being distracted by the latest political news (aka What Did Anthony Weiner Do This Time?!) — as such, we also regret to inform you that the director of the recent action thriller Criminal is helming a new reboot of Rambo that will not feature Sylvester Stallone, which, if our science is correct, does not sound like a Rambo movie at all.
Thor Gets a Costume Upgrade in New ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Set Photo
Late yesterday, Taika Waititi treated Marvel fans to a surprisingly lengthy video from the set of Thor: Ragnarok, which offered our first look at Tessa Thomspon’s Valkyrie makeup (or some of it) and showed off a few of the characters and props we’ll see in the new sequel (among other things). You might have missed a followup to that video over on Instagram, where Chris Hemsworth shared a photo to support the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe — and revealed his sleek new Thor costume.
‘Harry Potter’ Movies (Yes, All of Them) Heading to IMAX for One Week Only
We’ll be returning to J.K. Rowling’s magical world of wizards this November with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and to help get you in the proper spirit, Warner Bros. is re-releasing all eight of the Harry Potter films — in IMAX, no less. There is a catch, of course: The films will only screen for one week, so if you want to see Mr. Potter & Co. on the very-very-big screen, you might want to clear your calendar.
Disney CEO Says Third ‘Star Wars Story’ Film Has a Writer, Teases Franchise Plans Beyond 2020
Lucasfilm has a pretty full slate between now and 2020, with one new Star Wars movie hitting theaters each year — and yes, that includes the mysterious third anthology film which once had Josh Trank attached to direct. We have plenty of Star Wars to keep us busy for the next few years, but according to Disney CEO Bob Iger, Lucasfilm hasn’t forgotten about that third spinoff project, which is still in the works along with tentative plans for more franchise installments beyond 2020.
‘Beauty and the Beast’ Sneak Peek Offers a Glimpse at Emma Watson and Dan Steven’s Chemistry
It’s been about four months since Disney premiered the first teaser for their live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, and the wait for the official, full-length trailer hasn’t gotten any easier. Following last week’s reveal of concept art and behind-the-scenes photos, the studio has debuted a clip from a new sneak peek that’s included on the upcoming 25th anniversary release of the animated classic.
The Avengers Get Super Silly in New ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Gag Reel
Of the many bonus features included in each new Marvel Blu-ray / DVD release, the gag reels are always the most special of the bunch, especially when the whole MCU gang gets together. You won’t be able to purchase Captain America: Civil War for another couple of weeks, but thanks to Marvel, you can watch the hilarious outtakes featuring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and the rest of the Avengers crew right now.
Yes, There Will Be an ‘Angry Birds Movie’ Sequel
Despite mixed reviews, The Angry Birds Movie was pretty successful at the box office, thanks to an early summer release date, a solid voice cast and an established franchise with a strong fan base. As you might have guessed, the animated adaptation of the hit video game series was successful enough to warrant a sequel, and if you’re rolling your eyes at the prospect, just remember that we’ve gotten sequels to movies that were far worse than this one, based on much less success.
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Star Tom Holland Visits Children’s Hospital in His Spidey Suit
You deserve something heartwarming after a long week, and Tom Holland has just the thing. The Marvel newcomer and star of Spider-Man: Homecoming donned his Spidey suit to pay a visit to some special friends at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, and the photos will most definitely put a smile on your face.
Dan Aykroyd Has Harsh Words For ‘Ghostbusters’ Haters Who Attacked Leslie Jones
If you haven’t been paying attention: Leslie Jones endured a barrage of disgusting racist and misogynist attacks that ultimately forced her to take a leave of absence from Twitter. The culprits? The very vocal contingency of Ghostbusters fans (aka Ghostbros) who have been decrying Paul Feig’s reboot because it features an all-female cast. Original Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd has come out in support of Jones, and he’s got some seriously harsh words for all the haters.
‘Inferno’ Trailer: Tom Hanks Would Like to Solve the Puzzle, Please
The latest trailer for Inferno is, unfortunately, not as intriguing as the last, but if you’re a big fan of exposition, then this one is for you. Tom Hanks and Ron Howard reunite for the third and final chapter in the Da Vinci Code trilogy, which sees our puzzle-solving protagonist Robert Langdon battling the apocalypse — at least it seems less painful than that one with the X-Men.
Watch Billy Crystal’s Wonderful Eulogy For Muhammad Ali
Comedian and actor Billy Crystal had been close friends with Muhammad Ali for many years, beginning with his appearance at an event honoring the legendary boxer in 1974. That moment — featured on ABC — helped launch Crystal’s career, and the comedian and boxer remained friends until Ali passed away last week. A special service was held for Ali last night in Louisville, Kentucky, where Crystal spoke at length about his dearly departed friend, delivering a eulogy that was equal parts heartwarming and humorous.
Are You Ready For a ‘Benji’ Reboot? Good, Because You’re Getting One
If studio developments in recent years have taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected when it comes to reboots and adaptations. From upcoming movies based on video games like Centipede and Tetris to the Jumanji reboot, it’s as if studios are plucking titles from the Least Likely pile (where is my Easy Bake Oven movie already?). The latest movie to get the unexpected reboot treatment is Benji — you know, the feel-good doggy adventure movie from 1974, which many of you probably remember best from its near-constant presence on The Disney Channel in the ’80s and early ’90s.
‘Captain America: Civil War’ Has Made One Billion Dollars Worldwide
Not that it’s terribly surprising, but Captain America: Civil War has now officially become the biggest film of the year (so far) worldwide, crossing the $1 billion mark at the box office this week. That makes Civil War the fourth Marvel film to reach that particular milestone, and it did so in just 24 days of release.
