Would Scotty McCreery Ever Be a Judge on ‘American Idol’?
We know Scotty McCreery can rock the American Idol stage as a contestant, but how about as a judge?
"Mentor, yes ... judging, I don't think so," McCreery tells Taste of Country at a media roundtable, held in Nashville in late May. "Judging is just – I know how it feels to be on the stage being judged by judges, putting your heart and soul into the whole week and learning the song and putting your best foot forward. Then sometimes you nail it, sometimes you don't; it's not because you didn't try."

McCreery won Season 10 of American Idol in 2011 and it launched his career as a country artist. Fast-forward to 2018, and he has just scored his first No. 1 single in "Five More Minutes." In seven years, he has learned a few things.
"I don't know if I could judge, but I would love to go there and help those contestants. Just give them some insight, little tidbits that I picked up when I was on the show and things I've picked up since," he says. "It's a lot to be bagging groceries one month and singing in front of 20 million people the next. That's a big leap, so I'd love to mentor if I could."
McCreery has actually already taken on a mentorship role on the ABC reboot of Idol, so perhaps fans will get to see even more of him in the future. Fresh off his first No. 1, McCreery recently released "This Is It," which is currently climbing the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The song is about his real-life relationship with soon-to-be-wife Gabi Dugal.
