The National Weather Service in Binghamton is warning of a potential for several inches of snow in the region and has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for 9 p.m. December 16 through 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters say snow and sleet are expected with total accumulations of two to five inches in Broome, Tioga, Delaware, Chemung and Steuben Counties in New York and Susquehanna, Bradford and northern Wayne Counties in Pennsylvania.

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for areas north of Broome County , including Chenango and Cortland Counties from noon to 6 p.m. December 17.

NOAA says a period of light to moderate snow is expected affect the area tonight. Snowfall rates up to 1 inch per hour are possible at times tonight. The snow could then mix with some sleet Tuesday morning, before ending as snow showers Tuesday afternoon.

Motorists should on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions will impact the Tuesday morning commute.

In addition, temperatures are expected to stay in the mid 20s to low 30s overnight keeping the precipitation in frozen form.

Authorities remind motorists to slow down and use caution while traveling.
