Forecasters were expected about two inches of snow accumulation overnight Sunday with another 5 inches of new snow for the Greater Binghamton area for Monday, December 2.  Another inch of accumulation is possible Monday night before the system clears out of the area leaving sunny skies and temperatures into the mid 30s.

Emergency Services officials reported a few minor accidents overnight Sunday but anticipated that number would go up as the snow continues to come down.

Speed limits on major Interstates and state highways in New York and Pennsylvania have been reduced to 45 mph and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says there are restrictions on vehicles towing trailers and on empty and tandem trailers on the interstates and Turnpike until conditions improve.

In addition to dozens of school closings, a few businesses and services have also canceled operations including McIntosh Laboratories in Binghamton and Tioga Opportunities' offices and Meals on Wheels program.

Residents should call ahead to see if offices they want to do business with are open today and bear in mind, several governments have issued travel advisories. That means unnecessary travel is discouraged but not banned.
