How Old Is Too Old To Trick or Treat in New York?
Over the weekend, a friend of mine was telling me that he still hasn't found a Halloween costume for his child. It got me thinking about the days when I would try and help my daughter, Tara find a costume for her favorite holiday. She's nearly 20 now and still LOVES to put on a costume for Halloween.
That brings up the question of - how old is too old to trick or treat in New York State? In my opinion, there is no such thing as being too old for some Halloween fun, as long as you put in some effort.
Don't just put a baseball cap on backwards and go as a baseball player. Whether you're a tiny tot in a princess costume or a big kid with a spooky mask, the idea is to have some Halloween spirit.
I figure as long as kids are decked out in their favorite costumes, and spreading smiles instead of mischief, age shouldn't matter. After all, there is much worst things that they could be doing.
I love it when I see kids of all ages in their costumes looking for some candy. It reminds me that Halloween isn't just about the candy or the costumes; it's about the joy that comes with the spooky season.
With all the other things that our youngsters could be doing, it's a welcome sight to see them collecting candy. Let's enjoy the laughter and excitement that Halloween brings, instead of worrying about how old they are.
I miss the days of watching all of my children put on a costume and head to Poplar Hill, where the BIG CANDY is. Seeing their smiles and hearing their laughter is a memory that I will have forever.
Embrace your inner child and let's all celebrate together. In fact, put on a costume (Tigger is my favorite) and walk around with them. Enjoy it while you can because before you know it, they'll be out of the house. Then you'll realize how special it really was.
