I know many veterans in the Greater Binghamton area that look forward to a free meal on Veterans Day.  That's the least we can do to thank the men and women who have served our country in the United States military.  And I'm happy to say the list of restaurants and retailers continues to grow every year.

Military.com has the most complete list and you can access that by clicking HERE.  Keep in mind that the list includes places that may not be in the Hawk listening area, but looking at the long list of participating businesses, it's quite impressive.

Here are a few that caught my eye:

  • The Silo Restaurant in Greene is giving every Veteran $15 off a surf & Turf Buffet when accompanied by a guest purchasing the buffet at regular price.
  • Free meals Friday (November 11) for area Veterans at Texas Roadhouse (special lunch hours Friday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.), Olive Garden, Friendly's, Applebees, Little Caesars, Denny's (breakfast 'til Noon), I Hop (7am to 7 p.m.).
  • Free appetizers Friday for area Veterans at Outback Steakhouse and Ruby TuesdaysDunkin' Donuts will give you a choice of a free cup of coffee or a donut.

While most restaurant chains participate, some may be individually owned and operated so it's a good idea to call ahead.  You'll want to make sure you bring with you proof of service, such as a VA Universal Access Card, Military I.D., DD-214 (Discharge Papers), Veterans Service Organization Card (VSO's include groups like the VFW, DAV, AmVets, MOAA, FRA, and the American Legion), or in some cases businesses will accept a picture of the veteran in uniform.

We have a bunch of local businesses that honor businesses every day with the Broome County Veterans ID Program.  Find out more about this program, see the impressive list of LOCAL businesses that participate and how you can obtain a free ID card, by clicking HERE.

A very happy Veterans Day to the men and women who have served or continue to serve this great country of ours.
