A U.S. Navy pilot from upstate New York died when the jet he was flying crashed in New Mexico.

Military authorities say the Embraer A-29 Super Tocano aircraft went down Friday over White Sands Missile Range.

Officials say Navy Lieutenant Christopher Short of Canandaigua was killed in the crash.

The 32-year-old Short was piloting the jet during what was described as a training flight.

Another crew member was injured in the crash. That person's name and the nature of the injuries were not released by the Navy.

The military did not provide details about the fatal incident involving the jet.

A brief statement released by Holloman Air Force Base indicated the crash, which happened late Friday morning, was under investigation.
