Authorities said Farrelly had sustained serious injuries when he was hit by a minivan as he jogged in Stony Brook around 10:50 Tuesday morning.

Investigators said Farrelly crossed a roadway against the light and was struck by a 2018 Dodge Caravan.

Farrelly was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he had been reported to be in critical condition.

Police said the driver of the vehicle, 65-year-old Mohammad Refaat of Patchogue, was not hurt. His vehicle was impounded as part of the crash investigation.

As of Thursday night, investigators had reported no charges filed against Refaat.

Farrelly was a member of Stony Brook University's cross country team. He had received several awards and honors during his years as a Binghamton High School cross country runner.
