Two Tractor Trailers Crash on I81 North in Kirkwood

Broome County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a crash involving two tractor trailers on Interstate 81 that have shut down at least one lane of northbound traffic.

The vehicles crashed in the northbound lanes at Exit 3 in Kirkwood at 3:32 a.m. with two occupants reportedly suffering minor injuries. One of the rigs had been smoking but the fire was quickly put out by responding firefighters.

Aside from spilled diesel fuel, there had been no reports of any hazardous materials involved.

Authorities said at least the right-hand lane was closed to facilitate emergency vehicles accessing the scene.

There was no word on how long traffic might be impacted by the incident.

Traffic can detour onto Route 11 to avoid the scene.
