Electric service to several hundred NYSEG customers was knocked out after two utility poles and wires were brought down by a tractor-trailer in Endwell.

The incident happened around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday on Kentucky Avenue between East Main and North streets.

According to New York State Police, a truck driver had dropped off a container for trash and recycling. The load ramp on the truck was still in an elevated position when the vehicle entered the street, snagging electrical lines.

Two poles were yanked to the ground and transformers caught on fire, melting the asphalt.

The truck driver was trapped for a time because of the live wires. He was able to get out of the vehicle after NYSEG workers cut power to the lines. He was not hurt.

Police said the truck involved is owned by Don Snow Trucking of Port Crane.

Power to 712 NYSEG customers on nearby streets in Endwell and Endicott was interrupted. Some traffic signals were not operating for a time after the incident.
