Reality Check Youth, along with Tobacco-Free Broome and Tioga, is gearing up for a big cleanup event at Oakdale Commons on Wednesday, November 20th. We all know that some people are lucky enough to avoid secondhand smoke, while others aren't so fortunate.

That's where smoke-free air policies come in, making things fresher and better for everyone. And what better way to bring that point home than by getting our hands dirty (literally) at the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City?

Did you know that cigarette butts are major litter culprits, with an incredible 850,000 tons tossed out each year? Don't believe me? Just look on the ground the next time that you are walking around outside. YUCK!

The good news is that the awesome Reality Check youth team is ready to come in and clean it all up, one butt at a time. Remember, every great thing begins with one step at a time

Helping out on this incredible cleanup job is Jay Peets, the Community Engagement Officer from the Johnson City Police Department. With his support, they’ll be tackling the cigarette butt issue while making sure that everyone involved is safe.

A big shoutout and thank you to sponsors, Tobacco-Free Broome & Tioga and Reality Check, backed by the New York State Bureau of Tobacco Control. They are the true champions, working hard to kick tobacco to the curb and off the ground.

Together they hope to create a smoke-free paradise for all of us in New York. For more information and updates, check out tobaccofreenys.org.

Classic Cigarette Vending Machines

Cigarette smoking is slowly becoming a thing of the past but here are some remnants of a time when smoking was widely accepted.

There are lots of different types of cigarette vending machines from back in the day that you won't see in a restaurant or in front of a store anymore.
