We love it when the community comes together to help those in need in the Southern Tier. For several years, we've had our Food-a-Bago Food Drive to help the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW).

Another group stepped up last Thanksgiving to help fight food insecurity and they are going to do it again this year. My friend Jeff is one of the owners of Food & Fire BBQ Taphouse in Johnson City and they have gotten together with two local businesses to help make it a better Thanksgiving in the Southern Tier.

They along with Visions Federal Credit Union and Red Barn Technology Group present the  "Thanksgiving Give Back" program.

Thanksgiving Give Back Program With Food & Fire In Johnson City

They will be delivering hot turkey dinners that include mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and butter corn to over 100 families in the Southern Tier. Families from seven school districts including Chenango Forks, Johnson City, Maine-Endwell, Newark Valley, Susquehanna Valley, Union Endicott, and Windsor will be helped.

They will also be helping out the YWCA of Binghamton and HCA in Johnson City. In all, they will be delivering turkey dinners to over 500 people as they hope to make a difference in our area.

Food and Fire plan on continuing this event in years to come and they want to grow it into other areas and get more restaurants involved too. If you are looking for a way to help them this Thanksgiving, you can make a donation, by going here
