A Broome County sheriff's deputy pursued a man wanted for stealing a car into a wooded area and took him into custody after a struggle.

Authorities say 40-year-old Hayes Cutting of Bainbridge has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property, a felony. He also faces counts of resisting arrest and escape.

According to the sheriff's office, a sergeant spotted a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Econo Lodge Inn and Suites Hotel in the town of Dickinson late Friday.

The sergeant spotted Cutting trying to enter the passenger side of the car. Cutting was detained but alleged ran into the woods.

Cutting was in custody a short time later following what was described as a brief struggle.

Investigators say the car had been stolen from the village of Sidney.
