This basketball tournament showcases the skills of the most promising young players, while also giving them valuable exposure and development opportunities. The Summer Hoops Festival (organized by the BCANY) is a professional association that is dedicated to promoting and advancing the sport of basketball in New York.

It's made up of basketball coaches who help instill sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline in their players. The players are selected to represent different regions of New York State and the teams compete against each while showcasing their talent.

The event brings in college coaches, scouts, and basketball fans that  are eager to see the future stars of the sport. You never know who will show up to see these talented NY basketball players. One year, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim attended the tournament to see for himself, some the talented players that the Empire State has to offer.

The players also have the chance to learn from these experienced coaches as they refine their techniques, and improve their basketball IQ with specialized clinics and training sessions.

It's for the good of the game, the players, and coaches. I would even say that it's for the good of the referees too. I'm proud to say that I've been a part of this event for the last several years as a basketball official.

I'll be officiating at the Johnson City Middle School gym beginning Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. and will be a referee throughout the weekend. You can see what teams and when they are playing here.
