Two remarkable young members of the Southern Tier Composite Squadron have earned one of the Civil Air Patrol’s highest honors, and our community couldn’t be more proud!

Cadet Captains Joshua Nelson and Lily Emmond have been awarded the prestigious Amelia Earhart Award, a distinction that represents hard work, leadership, and a dedication to excellence that goes far beyond the ordinary.

Named after the trailblazing aviator who inspired generations to dream bigger, it’s reserved for cadets who complete Phase III of the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program. At just 15 years old, Lily Emmond of Vestal serves as the Squadron Cadet Commander. In this role, she doesn’t just lead; she inspires. Seventeen-year-old Joshua Nelson of Maryland, NY, is the Squadron Cadet Emergency Services Officer. His role is vital, ensuring the squadron is ready to respond when needed.
